DIXON HALL OVERNIGHT MUSIC CAMPS

Over the course of the year we support summer and March break music camps at Hart House Farm located in Caledon Hills on the ridge of the Niagara Escarpment. Funds given by The Minstrel Foundation to The Dixon Hall Music School for these camps are used to cover the fees to book the farm, buses to get to and from camp, music teachers to run the camps and of course groceries to feed the campers!

NATIONAL MUSIC CAMP

Each year the Minstrel Foundation sends over a dozen students at the intermediate and advanced levels to one week at the National Music Camp in Orillia which is held for two weeks in August divided between Junior (grades 3-8) and Senior camps (grades 8-12). Our students mix with a large demographic of students from across Canada and are taught by a very accomplished faculty of over 40 music teachers and professional musicians assisted by over 30 music staff from Universities and Colleges. In addition to over 3 1/2 hours of music lessons each day, students enjoy swimming, waterskiing, canoeing, kayaking, wall climbing, zip-lining, trapezing, tennis, soccer, basketball and arts & crafts. Campers sleep in cabins, enjoy meals together in a large dining hall and use a number of rehearsal halls and spaces and perform in a large theatre/concert hall. The National Music Camp is an extraordinary opportunity for students from our inner city music programs to live with and be motivated by other youth with a variety of aspirations and accomplishments.

St. James Town COMMUNITY ARTS SUMMER CAMP

St. James Town Community Arts (formerly Reaching Out Through Music) has been providing free music, drama, dance and visual arts enrichment programs to children and youth of St. James Town, one of the most densely populated communities in Toronto and a new home to many of our immigrant families.

Our initial grant launched the Summer Arts Camp in 2021. Each year the camps consist of workshops in Music, Drama, Dance and the Visual Arts, culminating in the co-creation and performance of a multi-faceted arts production and short film (5-10 mins). Professional staff are assisted by counsellors from the community, volunteer parents and volunteer interns from TMU’s social work program who accompany participants to classes and provided supervision during breaks.

If you would like to check out this year’s performance of Seussical the Musical, it’s available on YouTube.
